The present fusion program of Japan is based on the Third Phase Basic Program of Fusion Research and Development, determined by the Japan Atomic Energy Commission in 1992. The Program describes Fusion Plasma Technology, Reactor Technology, Safety and Fusion Reactor System as the subject areas. The present research activity is now undertaken based on the subject areas. This paper describes The Third Phase Basic Program and the overview of the relevant present research status.
